salamander striped

Join us today as I share some listener feedback emails that came in from listeners just like you. If you have been a long time listener you know that Thursday shows have typically been reserved for listener feedback about the Off The Grid Podcast. Recently with Thursday shows now being in video format Tuesday episodes will now accommodate listener questions, comments, and feedback when you email in. First up Brent emailed in a video response with a great reminder for everyone to keep an eye out for snakes and other wildlife. As he mentioned in today’s episode we should all take a little more caution when we are in mother natures back yard. Venomous snakes can be dangerous and deadly so please watch where you step. He also mentioned that bears are making theresalamander way around as well. I have noticed a lot of small salamanders scurrying around as I was out preparing the garden. I may have also seen a few baby snakes but I am not sure because they were too fast for me to get a good look at them!

Another email came in from Tom. Tom seemed to be more excited about my new truck than I was! lol It also seems that he and maybe even a number of you may be getting a little tired of me mentioning the Hugelkulture wood core beds for this years garden. Noted and yes I can relate as I mentioned in today’s show. As for politics I will dodge that one like a politician! lol The only thing I will say is that “those who through dirt lose ground”. As for the Time Travel Tuesday segment it will be going on the back burner for now. I have been asking for some feedback for the last few weeks. Please listen to today’s show for more explanation. In place of the Time Travel Tuesday segment I will be replacing it with a segment about some of the deals I have a knack for finding. If you are reading this now please take a moment and email me with your ideas for a name for the new segment. Deal of the week, daily deals, etc?? What would you call the new segment?

autographed batters glove
March 9th, 2016 by Off The Grid

As I wake up each day out here stepping outside the off grid camper it almost seems like spring has arrived early this year. The warmer weather in the beginning of March along with some subtle signs from mother nature make an early spring this year more real. The bees are beginning to buzz about, the birds seem to be chirping with a little more enthusiasm, spiders of all kinds seem to be a bit more acrobatic, the trees are budding with anticipation of the warmer weather, and the frogs continue their nightly symphony serenading the sun at the dawn of each new day. Yup.. Forget the calendar mother nature knows that spring is here! 🙂 Once again i have been gathering a lot more woodautographed batters glove for this years garden. If you are asking don’t you have enough already? Well.. no not yet. I am trying to get as much as I can out of the forest before the ticks and snakes are in full swing for the warm spring season.

Today’s Time Travel Tuesday segment flashes back 27 years ago to the year of 1989. Back then I was living in Washington State. As a kid I had a paper route and one year the Seattle Times newspaper was offering prizes for selling new subscriptions. This particular year I was fortunate enough to be able to go to a major league baseball game with the Seattle Mariners vs the Boston Redsox. If you are reading this before listening to the Time Travel Tuesday segment I will not spoil it for you. I will however give you a clue about today’s item(s) if you have not already guessed by the featured image here in the show notes. Today’s story takes us back to 1989 just after a baseball game when I experienced a moment of being starstruck as Darnell Coles of the Seattle Mariners baseball team autographed my batters glove. If you are a big baseball fan and would like to learn more check out Darnell Coles stats on Baseball Almanac.

Thank you for listening! If you have any show suggestions, comments, questions, or feedback please feel free to email me!

A weekend at the flea markets in springtime means finding more tools for working on and cleaning the off grid camper. If you have been following the podcast then you now I love hunting for deals at the flea markets. Today was one of the first good days with warm spring weather in this area. Combine that with the fact that most of the people with stuff at the flea markets are looking to sell after a long winter and you can save a lot of money! Yes I found a few good deals.

Ironically just after checking out the flea markets I attended a Minimalist group meeting. If your asking what is minimalism or what is a minimalist your not alone. If you don’t know Minimalists are people who are on a path to make their lives better and create more meaning with less “stuff”. There were about a dozen people at the Meetup from all walks of life. Everyone had different versions of what minimalism meant to them. Having fewer possessions has really made more and more sense during this move. As I take this step from living in an average size house in the suburbs to living off the grid in a camper minimalism is sounding very good right now. You can’t take it with you when you check out here on earth so um.. yeah.

Today’s episode of the Off The Grid podcast was recorded back in April along the way into the camper. Please post if you have a question or comment and again thank you for listening! 🙂
