Whats the deal with this city slicker going off grid!? This website and podcast was created after living many years as a city guy with a strong urge to go Off The Grid. Like all things involving great change my journey started in a sense years ago with a vision yet I did not know exactly how or when events would play out. Going Off Grid had been a goal for several years now and through a series of recent events it quickly became a reality as I approached my 40th birthday. Yup.. I almost made my bucket list dream of being Off The Grid by 40 and within a month I had made it!
“At the start of a journey your desire is always greater than your talent and sometimes that time is just so your talent can catch up”
This year 2015 marked some major changes in my life. Stepping off the cliff with a scary leap of faith in my journey to off grid living.. I actually moved out of mainstream white picket fence America to a completely new set of surroundings and lifestyle. If your new to the Off The Grid podcast then consider this about page an extremely condensed version. If your intrigued then tune in every week for the show and hear the Off Grid documentary while its being made.. in real life as it happens with Levi the Off the Grid guy!
“Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier”
I may not have been aware of it but the lure of personal liberty and the freedom that comes with an Off Grid lifestyle was almost ingrained as a child. Ever since I was a kid I can remember being fascinated by a large book my mom gave me one year called the Solar Living catalog. It was filled with projects, kits, alternative energy gadgets, and new ideas that at 12 or 13 I wondered why this was not the norm. If we had the technology why were more people not making good use of this wondrous book and its cool stuff to save money and live better?! While I was keenly aware and observant of the struggles my mom experienced financially (a single mother raising 3 kiddos) I knew even then I would live my life different. Off The Grid just happened to be that way of life. My mom passed away a couple of years ago. Its funny when you realize that your parents are no longer here on this earth.. you begin to think and see life in a new light. Among many new insights one thing became strong and burned like a fire inside my spirit. My desire to step out of the familiar concrete jungles of suburbia were numbered and I was going Off Grid! Its almost like a switch had been flipped when I realized my mother had passed. Looking at her life I realized there was no time like NOW to make your dreams a reality. Don’t wait until you loose that will to explore the possibility of off grid living and wonder what if?! After all..
“Dreamers are a dime a dozen, doers change the world”
So if your reading this now then please learn from a keenly valuable lesson that was presented to me. If you have been wanting to go Off The Grid, live in a Tiny House, build an Earthship, or simply buy land and put up a Yert then take the steps now and just do it! Stop making excuses or telling yourself what ifs or what about etc. They say that the biggest thing most people toward the end of their life regret is not being who they want to be or doing what they truly would like for fear of what others will think of them. Truth comes in many forms as do lessons and seemingly random messages from the universe. If deep down you feel like this might be a sign to actually find out what it is like to experience off grid living instead of always being the observer then try it!
“There is a difference in knowing the path and walking the path”
