Have you ever seen a snake climb a tree or eat a spider? If not then keep reading and listen to today’s episode of Off The Grid Podcast because I just saw a little gardener snake eat a spider out of its web! Ok this might sound like scene out of a horror movie but this is real life and I was fortunate enough to have captured it on video. Since my short yet adventurous journey from the suburbs to out here living off the grid I have seen a lot of natures wonders. Many huge insects, birds, frogs, lizards, salamanders, bats, possum, foxes, deer, you name it! As the saying goes just when you think you have seen it all.. Well let me back up a bit and start from the beginning.
I stepped out of the off grid camper on a nice sunny Saturday, grabbed a shovel, and started digging for a new compost pile when I was surprised by a snake that went out on a limb to eat a spider. I just started digging when out of the corner of my eye I saw a little green snake to my right that had climbed up a tree about 3 feet off the ground. There was a huge spider about the size of your thumb doing its thing in the web when the two gladiators clashed. Im not sure what kind of spider it was but as luck would have it the very next day the same kind of spider took over the old spider’s web so I got a pic for you guys. This ambitious little green gardener snake had climbed a tree, literally went out on a limb, and ate a spider right out of its web! This truly was one of natures great David and Goliath moments. Unfortunately the spider lot this round in the wilds of here off the grid outside of my camper.
I was grateful to have been at the right place at the right time to have witnessed this because it truly was a spectacle only to be seen here off grid in the forest. If you want to watch the snake with the spider in its mouth then check out the video for today’s episode of Off The Grid Podcast on YouTube here. As you can see in the video the snake continued to climb up about 6 feet up the tree after its arachnid mid day snack. It was orange, brown, yellow and black measuring about the size of a thumb. Does anybody know what kind of spider this is?
